Resh, the twentieth letter of the Hebrew alphabet, has the numeric value of two hundred. The upper limit of poverty is two hundred zuz. In the teachings of Kabbalah, it is taught that there are two hundred lights that shine out of the self.

Resh is shaped like a bent over head, symbolizing a person bent over in poverty and servitude. It also represents conformity to social norms, and one committing to Divine service.

Resh also represents earth’s produce and vegetation.
