Union
Chet, the eighth letter in the Hebrew alphabet, has the numeric value of eight. Eight symbolically represents energy beyond nature, which is represented by the number seven. The oil in the Chanukah menorah lasted eight days and eight nights, circumcision takes place eight days after a baby is born, and G-d is one in the seven heavens and one earth.
Chet is formed by a vav and zayin, masculine and feminine energies combining to form a harmonious union. The Chet creates a gate and a wedding canopy, a chuppah. The vav and zayin represent G-d revealing and holidng back His Divine energy. This balanced relationship is represented by the Chet.
