In Aramaic, nun means fish. The letter Nun represents Moshe (Moses), as he was placed in a basket in the Nile River by his mother Yocheved, just like a fish. Yehoshua (Joshua), his ever faithful student, is referred to by the name ben Nun, son of Nun. The Torah teaches that a teacher is the equivalent of a parent.
