Nun, the fourteenth letter of the Hebrew alphabet, has the numeric value of fifty. There are fifty years in the Yovel (Jubilee) cycle, Fifty references to the Exodus in Torah, and fifty days of counting the Omer between Pesach and Shavuot.
In Aramaic, nun means fish. The letter Nun represents Moshe (Moses), as he was placed in a basket in the Nile River by his mother Yocheved, just like a fish. Yehoshua (Joshua), his ever faithful student, is referred to by the name ben Nun, son of Nun. The Torah teaches that a teacher is the equivalent of a parent. In Hebrew, nun means “kingdom,” and in particular, the “heir to the throne.”
In Kabbalah, fish are viewed as having no ego, as they are completely surrendered to the water they depend on.
